CSE HTML Validator (also referred to as HTML Validator) is a very important part of an HTML development environment. Before publishing HTML documents, especially documents created manually or with a "dumb" HTML editor, you should check the documents for syntax errors. HTML Validator functions as that checker, helping to make sure that your documents are written in correct syntax so that they are viewed as intended in a variety of HTML browsers.
NOTE: CSE HTML Validator cannot check for a completely syntactically correct document, although it can find many syntactic errors and offer useful advice and assistance in creating your documents.
NOTE: CSE HTML Validator is not a "real validator" in the strict technical definition of "validator". Instead, it is based on a powerful engine that is custom designed for HTML, XHTML, and CSS. Because of this, it is capable of finding many problems that a "real" validator cannot.
Checking your documents for good syntax cannot be done using standard HTML browsers because browsers are mainly designed to only view (render) HTML documents. If syntax errors exist in a document being viewed, a browser will attempt to display the document in a less predictable manner (it guesses as to how it thinks the document should be displayed), thus resulting in syntax errors causing your document to be displayed in a variety of fashions that are likely to vary depending on the browser and even with the version of the browser. Often, if a document has enough errors, it will not even display, or may display only partially. But why worry about it when you can easily check your documents with HTML Validator? Simply have HTML Validator check your documents prior to them being published. Once syntax problems are located and corrected, you may also notice that your documents display faster and with less problems.
The name CSE HTML Validator comes from the college course it was originally designed for, which is Computer Science Engineering 3310, a software engineering course at the University of Texas at Arlington. Since this course, CSE HTML Validator has come a long way from the original version. It now offers features, compatibility, configurability, and a level of usefulness that was never anticipated in its original version! It has grown into a truly professional tool that is used by major corporations, small businesses, and individuals.
The first name given to CSE HTML Validator was "CSE 3310 HTML Validator". However, beginning with version 3.0, the "3310" was dropped to simplify the name. Beginning with version 4.0, "Professional" was added to better reflect the new power and features of CSE HTML Validator.
Additionally, a "lite" edition was created in June of 1999, and a "standard" edition was created in May of 2002.
CSE HTML Validator Lite is a completely free version of CSE HTML Validator. It lacks many of the powerful features of the standard and professional editions and has reduced syntax checking capabilities, but it's free! This is great for those who do not need to use CSE HTML Validator enough to make it worth purchasing. Now you can still use CSE HTML Validator for those little jobs where the standard or professional editions would be overkill. Visit CSE HTML Validator's web site for more details on the different editions.
CSE HTML Validator Standard is very similar to the professional edition but is less expensive and lacks some of the professional edition's features. Please visit the web site for more details.
CSE HTML Validator Professional is free for 30 days or for the first 100 validations (whichever comes first) so that you can evaluate it. After the evaluation period, you are required to register the software if you plan to continue using it. Please see the Ordering Information for pricing and ordering information. You may distribute the unmodified, evaluation installation file containing CSE HTML Validator (Professional or Lite) to anyone provided that no fee is charged.
Note that the lite edition is free and doesn't cost anything for unlimited use.
AI Internet Solutions welcomes any comments, suggestions, and bug reports that you may have about CSE HTML Validator. Let us know so we can fix any problems that we have not yet been made aware of.
CSE HTML Validator is electronically distributed commercial software (although the lite edition is FREE). You may test it free of charge in accordance with the license agreement. You may also distribute trial versions freely to others so that they may try it. You may distribute any evaluation or trial version but you may NOT distribute any version that is only for registered users.
HTML Validator requires a Win32 operating system. This includes Microsoft Windows 95, 98, Me, NT 4.0, 2000, XP, and above. If you can run the operating system, then you should be able to run HTML Validator. However, for serious development work, AI Internet Solutions recommends Windows NT 4.0, 2000, or XP due to the improved stability and performance of those operating systems.
The recommended minimum system requirements for using HTML Validator include a 100 MHz Pentium class processor with an adequate amount of memory (depending upon the operating system) and an 800x600 resolution screen with a minimum of 256 colors.
HTML Validator is most productive with a Pentium II, Celeron, or higher class processor, 128 MB of RAM or more, and a 1024x768 or higher resolution screen.
Several components are used in CSE HTML Validator. Some of them are listed here.
